Mobility impairment
The legislation (Public Transport Accessibility Decree) stipulates that a bus has an entrance and exit that needs to offer unobstructed access between the bus stop or the platform and the bus. In addition, mobility aids must comply with safety requirements in order to be able to travel by bus. Agreements have also been made about what you can expect from the driver if you travel in a wheelchair.
Requirements per mobility aid
Read more about the different rules for each aid via the tabs.Travelling with a mobility scooter
A mobility scooter is not allowed on the bus. Due to the construction of a mobility scooter it is not possible to secure a mobility scooter properly. The existing safety belt is not suitable for this and therefore we cannot guarantee safety.
An exception is the foldable mobility scooter. This can be taken along if it can be transported as luggage and can be placed in the available space. The passenger must be ready at the bus stop with the folded mobility scooter, so that he/she can board immediately upon arrival of the bus.
Travelling with a walker
You can travel on our buses with a walker.
- Place the walker on the wheelchair space during the ride, provided it is not occupied. A passenger in a (electric) wheelchair always has priority on this spot.
- Put the walker on the brake during the trip.
- Sit in a passenger's seat on the bus. You are not permitted to sit on the walker during the ride. This is dangerous if the bus would suddenly stops.
Travelling in a wheelchair
With the regular bus
Our regular buses have a low entrance and a foldable (electronic or mechanical) plank for optimal accessibility. In addition, every bus has an adapted spot where a wheelchair can stand and be secured. For safety reasons, not all types of (electric) wheelchairs are allowed in our buses. We are compliant with European regulations. This means the following:
- A (electric) wheelchair including a wheelchair user may not weigh more than 250 kg.
- The (electric) wheelchair may not be larger than 120 cm long, 70 cm wide and 109 cm high.
- Your (electric) wheelchair must be secured against the partition in the designated wheelchair space in the bus. We recommend that you use the safety belt. However, this is not compulsory.
- Parking backwards is not possible if there is medical equipment on the back of the wheelchair. In that case, you must use the available seat belt if it is long enough.
- Always put the (electric) wheelchair on the brake.
In a local bus
In Zuid-Oost Brabant, wheelchair users can travel with the local bus. To be sure of your place in the local bus, you can make a reservation by filling in a request form. The driver will take this into account.Go to the 'Wheelchair in a local bus' form
